Sergeant Beckwith was a member of Troop D, 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division. On March 24, 1971, he was the tail gunner of a Bell Kiowa Observation Helicopter on a visual reconnaissance mission in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. The aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
