Second Lieutenant Belyea was the pilot of a F-84G Thunderjet fighter with the 311th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 58th Fighter-Bomber Group. On October 30, 1953, while flying on instruments, his aircraft crashed into a small mountain near Kumch'oc, Korea.
