Staff Sergeant Bennett was a member of Headquarters, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. On December 29, 1964, he was advising South Vietnamese in Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam, when he was taken prisoner. He died in captivity. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
