First Lieutenant Bennett was a member of the 558th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 13, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a close air support mission in South Vietnam. After disposing his ordnance he parachuted into the Song Co Chien River and sank before he could be rescued. 1LT Bennett's remains have been recovered and identified in 2011. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
