Captain Bennett was a member of the 22nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Strategic Air Wing, Utapao Airfield, Thailand. On December 22, 1972, he was the co-pilot of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52D) on a strike against storage facilities near Bac Mai Airfield, North Vietnam. As the aircraft neared the target it lost its radar, then was hit by a surface to air missile. Captain Bennett's remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
