Airman Second Class Benson was stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio. On October 3, 1952, he was on a pass with two other airmen, when he was involved in an automobile accident. He died of those injuries at the hospital in Bellevue, Ohio on October 6, 1952.
