Corporal Bertrang was a member of Headquarters Battery, 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy along the Kum River, South Korea on July 14, 1950 and returned to duty on July 19, 1950. He was again listed as Missing in Action the following day near Taejon, South Korea and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
