First Lieutenant Berube was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 211, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On August 11, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4E) over Chu Lai, Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed and burned killing him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
