Ensign Beste was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Notes
Ensign Beste served as a nurse with the U.S. Navy. She was enroute to Tokyo to aid the Korean wounded. On September 19, 1950, she was a passenger of a C-54 Skymaster transport from Kwajalein to Japan. The aircraft crashed and exploded shortly after takeoff killing all 26 Naval personnel on board.
