Colonel Biediger was a member of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On January 29, 1967, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105F) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. He was taken prisoner and died in captivity in April 1967. His remains were recovered on June 3, 1983 and identified on June 27, 1983. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
