Sergeant Biedka was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F4U-4B Corsair fighter with Marine Fighter Squadron 312, Marine Air Group 33, 1st Marine Air Wing. On October 27, 1950, while on a combat mission four miles east of Hwangsuwon-ni, North Korea and near the Chosin Reservoir, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire, crashed and exploded.
