Captain Bigham was a crew member of a B-29A Superfortress Bomber with Headquarters and Service Company, 98th Bomber Wing. On January 9, 1951, white on a night leaflet dropping mission, the aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire near Chongju and the crew bailed out over P-Y-do. He was taken Prisoner of War and died while a prisoner. The rest of the crew were rescued. His remains were not recovered.
