Corporal Black was a fire team leader in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while attacking enemy positions at "Pork Chop Hill" in Korea on March 29, 1953, when he was struck by enemy mortar fragments.
