Private First Class Blankenship was a member of the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on November, 6 1952 and returned to duty on November 21, 1952. He was seriously wounded again in North Korea on April 17, 1953 and died of those wounds later that day.
