Staff Sergeant Boyer was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group. On March 28, 1968, he was on a reconnaissance patrol about 15 miles inside Laos northeast of Tchepone when it met an enemy force and requested extraction by helicopter. SSGT Boyer began to climb the ladder when it broke and the helicopter was forced to leave the area. His remains were recovered in 2015 and identified in 2016. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery. SSGT Boyer's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
