On September 4, 1965, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a bombing mission near a railroad about halfway between Tho Trang and Phu Dien Chau in Nghe An Province, North Vietnam. During a low level strafing run his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on March 27, 1992 and identified on June 9, 1993. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
