Lieutenant Colonel Brashear was a member of the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 12th Tactical Fighter Wing. On May 8, 1969, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a mission near Chavane, Attopeu Province, Laos when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
