Colonel Brinckmann was a member of the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On November 4, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105F) on a mission about 60 miles northeast of Hanoi, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on July 31, 1989 and identified on December 20, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
