Sergeant Major Brown was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group. On March 28, 1968, he was on a reconnaissance patrol about 15 miles inside Laos, northeast of Tchepone and made contact with an unknown sized force and forcing extraction. The rescue helicopter had to leave before Sergeant Major Brown could get aboard. His remains were recovered on February 11, 2000 and identified on December 18, 2001. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
