Sergeant Walter B. Brown was born in Washington, Tennessee on February 14, 1875. He enlisted in the Army on November 19, 1898 and served with Company L, 20th Infantry Regiment in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. He was discharged with excellent service at Lobo, Philippines on November 18, 1901 and remained in the Philippines until February 14, 1908. He moved to Panama. There he became Superintendent of the Supply Department at Cristobal, Canal Zone. He died on November 7, 1920. He was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then re-interred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
