Sergeant First Class Brown was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group. On November 3, 1969, he was on patrol 30 miles inside Laos near Ban Chakevy Tai in Saravane Province, when it was ambushed. He was wounded and declared Missing in Action. His remains were recovered April 2010 and identified on January 6, 2011. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
