Ensign Broyles was the pilot of a F2H-2 Banshee fighter with Fighter Squadron 22 aboard the aircraft carrier USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CV-39). On July 26, 1953, after striking Hoeryong Air Field, North Korea, he failed to rendezvous with his flight. He was presumed dead on August 20, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
