Notes
Sergeant Brunke was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was severely wounded during heavy fighting at "Massacre Valley", South Korea on February 7, 1951 and returned to duty March 27, 1951. Initially, he was listed as Missing in Action during heavy fighting in Kong Dong, North Korea on September 28, 1951 but later determined he had been killed on that date. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
