Rufus Howard Burnette was born in Advance, North Carolina on September 5, 1917. He moved to Boone, North Carolina and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private on January 13, 1938 and was released on March 21, 1940. He then moved to Ancon, Canal Zone working as a Lock Operator and an Engineman - Hoisting and Portable, Locks Division. He died on November 3, 1977 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
