Captain Carrier was a member of the 390th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Danang Air Base, South Vietnam. On June 2, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a mission near Ron, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were recovered on July 31, 1989 and identified on November 17, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
