First Lieutenant Chamberlain was the pilot of an AD-3 Skyraider dive bomber with Marine Attack Squadron 121, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On March 29, 1953, while striking a target in enemy territory, he was not able to pull out a dive. He was declared missing and was presumed dead on March 29, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
