First Lieutenant Chomyk was a member of the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam. On April 22, 1968, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission near Hue, South Vietnam. As his aircraft made a pass at the target it suddenly pulled off and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
