Colonel Clark was a member of the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On February 14, 1969, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a night mission along the southern sector of the Ho Chi Minh Trail near Ban Bac, Saravane Province, Laos. After the second pass at the target, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and burst into flames. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
