Staff Sergeant Coalston was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Transportation Battalion (Seaborne), USNS CORPUS CHRISTI. On January 21, 1968, he fell from the fantail of his ship at Vung Pao Harbor, South Vietnam and was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
