Lieutenant Colonel Coltman was a member of the 430th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 474th Tactical Fighter Wing. On September 29, 1972, he was the pilot of a General Dynamics Aardvark Fighter (F-111A) on a mission about 10 miles southwest of Yen Bai, Laos, when the aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on November 20, 2000 and identified on January 28, 2002. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
