Staff Sergeant Conger was a rifleman with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 199th Infantry Brigade. On January 27, 1969, he was on a search and destroy mission near Tan An, Long An Province, South Vietnam. As he crossed a field he came under fire by machine guns so he moved forward to destroy the machine gun nest and was wounded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
