Lieutenant Colonel Connolly was a member of the 20th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On November 4, 1966, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Voodoo Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-101C) on a mission at Son La near Soui Rut, North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on July 17, 1984 and identified on August 2, 1984. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
