Captain Cornelius was a member of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On June 26, 1968, he was the pilot of a Cessna Skymaster Observation Aircraft (O-2A) on a mission over North Vietnam, when it rolled in on the target, crashed into trees and exploded. His remains were recovered on October 19, 2004 and identified on May 29, 2007. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
