Master Sergeant Corwin was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the Service Company, 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He was assigned to "Task Force Drysdale", bringing relief to the troops at Hagaru-ri, North Korea, when his unit was ambushed in "Hell Fire Valley" north of Koto-ri, North Korea. He was seriously wounded and died of those wounds on November 29, 1950.
