Captain Crews was a member of the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On May 22, 1968, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a night armed reconnaissance mission along Route 137, near Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. As the aircraft bombed a target of opportunity, it crashed in a fireball. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
