Private First Class Croghan was a medic with the Medical Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was takes Prisoner of War while tending his wounded comrades during the Kum River battle in South Korea on July 17, 1950 and forced to march to North Korea on the "Tiger Death March". He was killed by a North Korean guard on December 13, 1950 at Hanjang-ni, North Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
