Staff Sergeant Curlee was a medic with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. On June 10, 1965, he was a passenger in a Bell Huey Utility Helicopter (UH-1B) on a flight from Tan Son Nhut Airfield, Saigon to be inserted to the Dong Xoai Special Forces Camp, South Vietnam that was under attack. As the helicopter was disembarking troops, it came under attack and took off, but crashed shortly thereafter. Staff Sergeant Curlee was killed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
