First Lieutenant Dankowski was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while heroically fighting the enemy near Honu-Chon, North Korea on July 6, 1953. He was presumed dead on July 7, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
