Captain Darr was a member of the 340th Bomber Squadron, 72nd Strategic Air Wing, Anderson Air Force Base, Guam. On December 21, 1972, he was a crew member of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52G) bombing Hanoi, North Vietnam, when the bomber was shot down by a surface to air Missile. His remains were recovered on December 15, 1988 and identified on May 4, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
