Seaman First Class Dauphinais was a veteran of World War II. During the Korean War, he was assigned to the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christy, Texas. On February 15, 1951, he was giving a hitchhiker a ride from Poplar Bluffs, Missouri to Henderson, Texas, when he was shot and killed by the hitch hiker.
