First Lieutenant Delacy was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with the Marine Fighter Squadron 323, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On October 7, 1951, while on a combat mission between Mundung-ni and Chongsong-ni, North Korea, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire. He bailed out and was seen alive on the ground. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on March 17, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
