Private First Class DeRose was a member of Company H, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. On October 5, 1952, He was on a night patrol near Panmunjon, when his patrol was ambushed. When he failed to return, he was listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on October 16, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
