For his leadership and valor, Captain Dischinger was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Captain Dischinger was a member of 68th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 6160th Aircraft Base Group. On June 3, 1951, he was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter from the 524th Fighter Escort Squadron, 27th Fighter Escort Wing. While on a combat mission near Songhon, North Korea, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire, burst into flames and crashed into a hill. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
