Sergeant First Class Donovan was a member of Headquarters, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. On May 19, 1965, he was the observer of a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1G) on a reconnaissance mission over South Vietnam when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
