Lieutenant Commander Duncan was a member of Attack Squadron 85, Carrier Air Wing 6 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS AMERICA (CVA-66). On August 29, 1968, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6B) on an armed reconnaissance in the Vinh Son area of North Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by a surface to air missile and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
