First Lieutenant Dunn was the pilot of a F-84D Thunderjet fighter with the 69th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 58th Fighter Bomber Group. On June 15, 1953, while on a combat mission, his aircraft failed to pull out of a strafing run. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on April 30, 1954.
