Captain Edmunds was a member of the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Air Base, Thailand. On October 27, 1968, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on an armed mission on Ban Karai Pass, along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and 25 miles east-southeast of Dong Hoi, North Vietnam. As his aircraft dove towards the target, it received anti-aircraft fire, caught fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on June 5, 1988 and identified on October 14, 1988. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
