Major Egger was a member of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron. On November 3, 1967, he was an observer in a Cessna Skymaster Observation Aircraft (O-2A) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on February 7, 1994 and identified on August 15, 1994. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
