Lieutenant Colonel Elliot was a member of the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Air Base, Thailand. On February 14, 1968, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a combat mission near Hanoi, North Vietnam. After striking the target, his aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 6, 1988 and identified on December 13, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
