Chief Warrant Officer, Second Class Elliott was a member of Troop D, 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On June 9, 1970, he was the pilot of a Hughes Loach Observation Helicopter (OH-6A) enroute to a fire support base at Katum, South Vietnam. Bad weather caused him to crash. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
